My beliefs

There should be reasoning behind all beliefs we hold.

There is no god

I am an atheist. I don’t see any sign of existence of any of the many gods and goddesses. But I don’t deny that various religions came up with great ideas. Though I think people would came up with them anyway sooner or later.

Morals

Morals can’t be based on thousand-years-old books. A good meta-rule is

Don’t do unto others what you don’t want done unto you.
—Confucius (or maybe not)

The consciousness

I very much agree with Hofstadter’s thesis in GEB and I am a Strange Loop (or how I understand it) that the consciousness is a by-product of strange loops and self-references in our brain circuitry and our concept network represented in the neocortex.

Genes and people

Our bodies (and minds) are just evolved vehicles to copy and pass the genes. See Dawkins’ The Selfish Gene.

Living in a simulation

I believe we are not living in a simulation.

Eating

I believe that whole food plant-based diet is healthier than any other diet.

Conservatism and Liberalism

Both are important but only liberalism and progressivism are moving us forward.

System 1 and 2

We have two systems in our brain: one which is fast, automatic (intuition, face recognition, …) and one which is slow and strenuous (thinking). Both are learnt

Nature vs. nurture

I believe that nurture is the more impacting from the two. Let’s use a computer metaphor: some people may be endowed with i386 when born other may have M2 but all of them can run both shitty and awesome software.
