The Moral Landscape
How Science Can Determine Human Values
by Sam Harris
- I like to read Harris. I agree with him. I think that morality is a scientific topic (as is everything else). Religion might have been useful in the past but is long outdated and inappropriate for 21st century. Science won’t tell us the truth (in morality), it tells us the best way to search for the truth, it is just a technique. And that’s for me the main message of the book. Morality is about decreasing human sufferring.
What is possible now (eating animals, selling weapons, harassing women) might be considered immoral and even disgusting in the future.
